Trehalose for moisturizing and protective cosmetic formulations
Trehalose is a water soluble disaccharide of natural origin widely applied in production formulations thanks to stability and convenient incorporation into aqueous systems. The ingredient is used in cosmetic, hygiene and food products, blends well with various active ingredients and supports serial production.
Properties and skin appearance outcome
Trehalose contributes to formation of light product textures, improves spreadability and provides comfortable perception during application. Products formulated with this ingredient help maintain soft and fresh skin appearance while textures remain light and comfortable in use.
Application across industries
Trehalose is used in serums, creams, gels, masks, lotions, body care products, hair care formulations as well as hygiene and food formulations. The ingredient is widely applied in private label and contract manufacturing thanks to versatility across production formulations.
The ingredient is incorporated to build moisturizing performance, improve sensory characteristics and stabilize finished product texture. It blends well with botanical extracts, hyaluronic acid, vitamins and additional moisturizing ingredients ensuring stable formulation performance.
Recipe for moisturizing gel with trehalose
Purified water 93 ml
Trehalose 3 g
Glycerin 2 ml
Cosmetic thickener 1 g
Preservative 1 ml
To prepare the gel, trehalose is gradually dissolved in water under mixing until complete dissolution occurs. Thickener is then incorporated while mixing continues until uniform gel structure forms, followed by glycerin and preservative to obtain stable texture. The finished gel spreads easily across skin and maintains stability during storage.
Trehalose is widely used in production formulations supporting texture stability, reproducible performance and scalable manufacturing.
