Solaveil™ CZ-300: Advanced Mineral UV Filter for Flawless Sun Protection

Introducing Solaveil™ CZ-300, a next-generation mineral UV filter from England designed to provide broad-spectrum sun protection without the common drawbacks of traditional zinc oxide. This thick, white or slightly creamy paste is a pre-dispersed form of microscopic zinc oxide, specially coated with a silicone treatment. This unique composition ensures it is non-whitening on the skin, making it the perfect choice for creating elegant, high-performance sunscreens, cosmetics, and skincare products. With its safety profile and EcoCert approval, Solaveil™ CZ-300 is ideal for sensitive and children's skin.

Product Description and Key Features

Solaveil™ CZ-300 (also known as Solaveil CZ300, Solaveil coated ZnO, or zinc oxide dispersion treated) is a photo-stable, mineral-based active that works by reflecting and scattering harmful UVA and UVB rays. Unlike uncoated zinc oxide powders, its dispersion in a light, stable carrier fluid prevents clumping and allows for smooth, even application. Its creamy paste consistency makes it easy to incorporate into cosmetic formulations, ensuring a superior user experience with no heavy or chalky residue.

Key features and benefits:

  • Broad-Spectrum UV Protection: Provides powerful physical sun protection against both UVA and UVB rays, reducing the risk of photo-damage and premature aging.

  • No White Cast: The advanced silicone coating and microscopic particle size eliminate the typical white residue associated with zinc oxide, allowing for transparent application on all skin tones.

  • Photo-stable and Safe: It does not degrade in sunlight, providing long-lasting protection. It is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and gentle enough for the most sensitive skin types.

  • Excellent Compatibility: Insoluble in water, it readily disperses in oils and emulsion bases, seamlessly integrating into a wide range of formulations.

  • Soothing and Anti-inflammatory: Helps to calm the skin and reduce the risk of photo-allergies and inflammation, making it suitable for post-procedure skincare.

  • EcoCert Approved: This ingredient meets strict natural and organic cosmetic standards, making it a reliable choice for eco-conscious brands and consumers.

Applications and Usage Areas

Solaveil™ CZ-300 is a highly versatile active ingredient with a broad range of applications across cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and decorative makeup. Its ease of use and superior performance make it a go-to for formulators worldwide.

Cosmetic Applications:

  • Sunscreen and Lotions: The primary application is in sun protection products. Use it at a dosage of 15–25% for high SPF sunscreens and lotions.

  • Moisturizers with SPF: Incorporate into daily moisturizers and day creams at a dosage of 3–6% for everyday UV protection without a heavy feel.

  • Children's and Sensitive Skin Cosmetics: Its gentle nature makes it perfect for baby sunscreens and creams, typically used at a dosage of 10–20%.

  • Post-Procedure Skincare: Formulate creams and balms for use after treatments like lasers, peels, or microdermabrasion to protect vulnerable skin from UV damage.

Decorative Cosmetics:

  • BB, CC, and DD Creams: Add a functional layer of sun protection to these multitasking products. A dosage of 5–10% provides both coverage and SPF.

  • Foundations and Makeup Bases: Use it to create mineral-based foundations and primers that offer a matte finish and crucial UV defense. A dosage of 3–6% provides great sun protection while maintaining a lightweight feel.

Pharmaceutical and Dermatological Use:

  • Creams for Photosensitive Skin: Doctors and pharmacists use it in formulations to protect patients with photo-dermatoses or other sun-induced skin conditions.

Household Cosmetics:

  • Light-Sensitive Products: Its UV-blocking properties can help stabilize creams, lotions, and masks that contain light-sensitive ingredients, extending their shelf life and effectiveness.

Recipe: Lightweight, Non-Whitening SPF 25 Sunscreen

Create a silky, everyday sunscreen that offers excellent protection and feels wonderful on the skin. This recipe is designed to be elegant and effective.

Ingredients:

  • 70.5 g Distilled Water

  • 3 g Glycerin

  • 1.5 g Xanthan Gum

  • 10 g Jojoba Oil

  • 5 g Olivem 1000 (Emulsifier)

  • 10 g Solaveil™ CZ-300

  • 0.5 g Preservative (e.g., Geogard Ultra)

Instructions: Prepare the water phase: In a heat-resistant beaker, combine the distilled water and glycerin. Slowly sprinkle in the xanthan gum, whisking continuously to prevent clumps. Heat this mixture to 75°C.

Prepare the oil phase: In a separate beaker, combine the jojoba oil and Olivem 1000. Heat this mixture to 75°C, ensuring the emulsifier is fully melted.

Emulsify: Slowly pour the hot water phase into the hot oil phase while mixing with a high-shear mixer (such as an immersion blender) for 1-2 minutes until a thick, white emulsion forms.

Cool down and add Solaveil: Place the beaker in an ice bath. Continue mixing until the emulsion cools to below 40°C. Once cooled, add the Solaveil™ CZ-300 and the preservative. Mix thoroughly until the paste is fully integrated and the cream is smooth and homogenous.

Final check and packaging: Check the pH of the cream (it should be around 5.5-6.5). Transfer the finished product into an airtight container.

Recommendations:

  • Dosage: The 10% Solaveil™ CZ-300 in this recipe provides a moderate SPF of around 25. For higher protection, you can increase the dosage up to 25%, balancing it with the other ingredients to maintain texture.

  • Dispersion: Ensure the Solaveil™ is added to the cooled emulsion and mixed thoroughly. This is crucial for achieving an even, non-whitening application.

  • Consistency: The xanthan gum and Olivem 1000 create a light cream texture. You can adjust the viscosity by using a different gum or adjusting the ratio of oil to water.

  • Storage: Store the finished sunscreen in a cool, dark place. The preservative ensures a shelf life of 6-12 months.

  • Usage: Apply generously to all exposed skin 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply every 2 hours, or more often after swimming or sweating.
