Keeping Water-Based Formulas Stable Across Large Production Batches
Sepicide HB in a 1 liter pack is a liquid broad-spectrum preservative designed to protect water-containing cosmetic and household formulations from bacteria, mold and yeast throughout the shelf life of the finished product. This volume suits studio-scale and industrial manufacturers who need consistent dosing and a reliable supply of preservative from batch to batch. The product belongs to the Preservatives and Antioxidants section, which brings together ingredients responsible for microbiological safety across cosmetics, pharmaceuticals-adjacent products, food and household chemistry.
The main applications of Sepicide HB include emulsions, creams, lotions, serums, shampoos, conditioners, shower gels and liquid soap, where a high water content creates favorable conditions for microbial growth. It is also used in wet wipes, cosmetic masks and hygiene products where a mild yet dependable protection is required. In production, the preservative is typically added during the cooling phase of an emulsion, once the temperature drops below 40 degrees Celsius, to prevent thermal degradation of active compounds. The recommended usage rate generally falls between 0.5 and 1 percent of the total formula weight, with the exact concentration depending on the recipe and the pH of the finished product, since the preservative performs best in a slightly acidic to neutral range.
Sepicide HB combines well with other preservation systems, allowing manufacturers to broaden protection and reduce the load of any single ingredient. For formulas with a higher risk of fungal contamination, it is often paired with Neodefend, which strengthens defense against yeast and mold strains. Where an additional barrier against bacteria is needed, formulators frequently combine it with Phenoxyethanol, creating a more complete preservation system. Among emollient ingredients, the preservative works reliably alongside lipids and waxes, including Anhydrous Lanolin, which is commonly used in cream emulsions to restore the skin barrier.
When working with a 1 liter container, keep it tightly closed in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and avoid temperature fluctuations during storage in a warehouse or production facility. For regular manufacturing cycles, it is practical to decant a working portion into a smaller container so the main canister is opened as rarely as possible, preserving the stability of the active compounds for the full shelf life of each production batch.
Body Lotion Batch, 6 kg
Distilled water 4800 ml
Glycerin 180 ml
Vegetable emulsifier 300 g
Shea butter 250 g
Anhydrous lanolin 60 g
Sepicide HB 48 ml
Fragrance oil 20 ml
Heat
the water phase to 75 degrees Celsius, melt the oil phase with the emulsifier
and lanolin separately to the same temperature, then slowly pour the oil phase
into the water phase while stirring continuously until a uniform emulsion
forms. Cool the mixture below 40 degrees Celsius, add Sepicide HB and fragrance
oil, stir for several more minutes, then transfer the finished lotion into
bottles.
