Ingredients:
Instructions:
-
Prepare Your Workstation Wear safety goggles, gloves, and a long-sleeved shirt. Ensure your workspace is well-ventilated.
-
Make the Lye Solution Carefully add the lye to the distilled water in a heat-resistant container. Stir until the lye is fully dissolved. The solution will heat up. Set it aside to cool to around 40-45°C.
-
Melt the Oils In a separate pot, melt the solid oils (coconut oil and shea butter). Once melted, add the liquid olive oil.
-
Combine the Phases Ensure both the lye solution and the oil mixture have cooled to a similar temperature (around 40-45°C). Slowly and carefully pour the lye solution into the oil mixture, stirring continuously with an immersion blender.
-
Bring to Trace Blend the mixture in short bursts until it reaches a medium trace, which is a consistency similar to pudding.
-
Add the Fragrance Add the Dolce Fragrance Oil and any desired colorants. Blend briefly to incorporate.
-
Pour and Mold Pour the soap batter into your prepared mold. Tap the mold gently to release any air bubbles.
-
Insulate and Cure Cover the mold and insulate it with a towel to allow the soap to go through gel phase. After 24-48 hours, the soap should be firm enough to cut into bars. Allow the bars to cure in a cool, dry place for 4-6 weeks to ensure a mild and long-lasting bar.
Application Recommendations:
-
Safety First Always wear proper safety gear when handling lye. Never add water to lye; always add lye to water.
-
Fragrance Percentage The recipe uses a 2% fragrance load, which is a great starting point for a strong scent in cold process soap. You can adjust this to your preference within the recommended range of 1-2%.
-
Troubleshooting This fragrance oil is known for its stability and should not cause acceleration, but always have your mold ready before adding the fragrance.
-
Testing Always do a small test batch to ensure the fragrance behaves as you expect it to with your specific oils and recipe.
