What makes this ester emollient a popular silicone alternative in modern formulas
Natura-Tec Ultrafeel OS in a 25 g pack is a plant-derived ester emollient formulated to replace silicone compounds in skin and hair care formulations. It belongs to the emollients for cosmetics category, which brings together ingredients responsible for slip, softness and a silky finish on skin. This small size is well suited for home cosmetic making, trial formulations and small test batches of creams and balms before scaling up to larger production runs.
The main field of use for this emollient is color and skin care cosmetics, where formulators need a light, weightless texture without the typical silicone feel. It is widely used in the manufacture of BB and CC creams, foundations, sunscreens, lip balms and hair conditioners. The ingredient gives products a velvety glide, reduces tackiness of the formula and improves pigment dispersion in color cosmetics, which is why it often appears in foundation and pressed powder recipes where even application without a mask-like effect matters.
Ultrafeel OS pairs well with other natural emollients and thickeners. For instance, it is often combined with Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate, which acts as an emulsion stabilizer, complementing the softness and flow of the base formula. It is also paired with the silicone alternative PEG-12 Dimethicone in formulas where a blend of natural and synthetic skin feel is needed to reach the desired viscosity. A good partner in lightweight serums is Squalane, which boosts nourishing properties and softens skin without leaving a greasy film.
The recommended usage rate for this emollient ranges from 2 to 10 percent of the finished product weight depending on the desired texture and formula type. It should be introduced during the oil phase at around 70-75 degrees, after which it distributes evenly during further mixing with the water phase during emulsification. It is heat stable and retains its properties at standard cosmetic manufacturing temperatures, making it convenient for hot-process emulsions.
Ultrafeel OS should be stored in a tightly closed container, in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Under proper storage conditions the emollient remains stable throughout the shelf life stated by the manufacturer. Thanks to the compact 25 g size, this emollient is convenient to test in lab-scale batches before purchasing a larger quantity of raw material for full production runs.
Silky-finish lightweight day lotion
Distilled water 68 ml
Natura-Tec Ultrafeel OS 4 g
Squalane 5 ml
Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate 3 g
Glycerin 3 ml
Plant-based emulsifier 4 g
Preservative 1 ml
Combine the oil phase ingredients - Ultrafeel OS, squalane, Hydrogenated Palm Glycerides Citrate and the emulsifier - and heat over a water bath to 70 degrees. Warm the water and glycerin separately to the same temperature, then slowly pour into the oil phase while mixing continuously with a hand mixer for about three minutes until a smooth emulsion forms. Once the mixture cools to 40 degrees, add the preservative, mix again briefly, then pour the finished lotion into clean containers.
