Why formulators reach for deep red shimmer pigments
A rich carmine red shade with a strong pearlescent shimmer belongs to the Mica Powders category, mineral pigments colored with iron oxides and other inorganic compounds to deliver a stable tone with a soft glow. The 100 gram size fits studio and small-batch manufacturing well, giving formulators enough material for consistent runs of makeup, candles, resin pieces or household chemistry products without frequent reordering.
The main demand for this pigment comes from color cosmetics: eyeshadows, blushes, highlighters, lipsticks, lip glosses and nail lacquers. Its deep red tone with pearlescent shine is also widely used in epoxy resin art - jewelry, coasters, decorative panels - where the pigment gives clear resin a rich color and a shifting glow under different lighting angles. Mica pigments are commonly used in soap making for adding intense color to soap bases, as well as in bath bombs, polymer clay and slime crafting.
The powder is typically blended into dry components first or introduced directly into the oil or wax phase at a temperature not exceeding 70-75 degrees Celsius, since overheating can affect how evenly the particles disperse and the final color result. For color cosmetics the usual dosage ranges from 1 to 5 percent of the total product weight depending on the desired intensity, while for epoxy resin projects it is closer to 0.1 to 1 gram per 100 ml of resin, though the exact concentration is best confirmed with a small test batch before scaling up production.
This carmine red mica pairs naturally with other pearlescent and metallic pigments, allowing formulators to build layered effects and gradients. For a cool silvery contrast, Arctic silver Mica brings an icy shimmer to the mix, while a warmer golden undertone can be achieved by adding Golden Jade Mica to the formula. When a project needs a bright sparkling accent layered over the deep red base, Mica Silver Sparkle adds fine light-reflecting particles without shifting the overall hue.
The pigment should be kept in a tightly sealed container, in a dry area away from direct sunlight and moisture, since exposure to water can cause clumping and uneven color dispersion later on. Under proper storage conditions the pigment keeps its decorative performance for an extended period.
Shimmer resin coaster set
Clear epoxy resin 200 ml
Hardener 100 ml
Mica Carmine Red 1.5 g
Isopropyl alcohol a few drops
Mix
the epoxy resin with the hardener according to the standard ratio and stir
slowly for about three minutes to avoid trapping air bubbles. Divide the
mixture into a separate cup, sprinkle in the pigment and blend thoroughly until
the color looks even throughout, then pour into silicone coaster molds. Lightly
mist the surface with isopropyl alcohol to pop any remaining bubbles and leave
the molds undisturbed for at least 24 hours to cure fully before demolding.
