A Gamma-Linolenic Acid Rich Oil for Barrier-Repair Skincare Formulas
Evening Primrose Oil BIO in a compact 10 ml size is a cold-pressed botanical extract obtained from the seeds of the evening primrose plant. It belongs to our Liquid Basic Oils collection and stands out among carrier oils for its unusually high content of gamma-linolenic acid, a rare essential fatty acid known for supporting the skin's lipid barrier and helping maintain elasticity over time. This is precisely why evening primrose oil has become a staple ingredient worldwide in anti-aging formulations and products designed for dry, reactive, or mature skin types.
The most common industrial and craft applications of this oil are facial serums, anti-aging creams, eye contour treatments and body emulsions. It softens rough, dehydrated patches, works well in after-sun repair balms, and is frequently included in formulas targeting redness-prone or compromised skin. Beyond facial care, formulators add evening primrose oil to lip balms, cuticle oils, nail-strengthening treatments and nourishing hair masks, where it pairs with heavier carrier oils to balance texture. Small percentages of this oil also appear in color cosmetics such as tinted balms and sticks, adding a subtle skincare benefit to decorative products.
Because of its sensitivity to heat and oxidation, evening primrose oil should never be added to the hot phase of an emulsion. The recommended addition temperature is below 40 degrees Celsius, during the cooling phase, after emulsifiers and thickeners have already been incorporated. Typical usage rates range from 3 to 10 percent of the total formula, depending on the desired finish and product category. To improve formula stability, many chemists blend it with more oxidation-resistant oils such as Coconut Oil BIO or Copra Oil BIO, which provide a firmer base and extend shelf life. A touch of Vanilla Oil BIO is sometimes introduced into body and hand blends purely for its warm scent profile.
The 10 ml size is particularly suited for home formulators, small test batches and anyone developing a new recipe before committing to larger-scale production. This quantity allows you to evaluate the oil's performance in a specific formula without the risk of oxidation before it can be fully used. Store the oil in a tightly sealed, dark container, preferably refrigerated and away from heat and direct light, since its polyunsaturated fatty acids are highly reactive with oxygen and degrade faster than more saturated oils.
