Product Description

L-Tyrosine: The Multifaceted Amino Acid for Skin and Hair Vitality

Unleash the natural power of your skin and hair with our premium L-Tyrosine, a high-quality white crystalline powder meticulously sourced from Germany. This versatile amino acid, also known as tyrosine, is a cornerstone in various biological processes, playing a pivotal role in melanin and dopamine synthesis. Its unique properties make it an exceptional ingredient for cosmetic and health applications, offering superior protection against photodamage, stimulating cellular activity, strengthening hair, and improving overall skin resilience against stress.

Description and Key Features

L-Tyrosine (INCI: Tyrosine) is a non-essential amino acid with a neutral to slightly cocoa-like scent. While it has limited solubility in cold water, it readily dissolves in hot water and acids, making it adaptable for diverse formulations. Its pH in a 1% solution ranges from 5.0–6.5, ensuring compatibility with many cosmetic products.

Key features and benefits:

  • Melanin Synthesis & Photoprotection: L-Tyrosine is a direct precursor to melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair color. By supporting melanin production, it aids in the skin's natural defense against UV radiation, offering a degree of photoprotection and potentially aiding in achieving a more even tan.
  • Dopamine Synthesis & Anti-Stress: As a precursor to dopamine, a neurotransmitter, L-Tyrosine can indirectly contribute to improved overall skin condition under stress. This internal benefit translates to a healthier, more vibrant appearance.
  • Cellular Activity Stimulation: It actively stimulates cellular activity, promoting healthy cell function and renewal. This contributes to improved skin texture and a more youthful complexion.
  • Hair and Follicle Strengthening: L-Tyrosine plays a vital role in strengthening hair and its follicles, helping to reduce breakage and support healthy hair growth.
  • Barrier and Protective Functions: It helps to maintain the skin's barrier and protective functions, shielding it from environmental aggressors and supporting overall skin health.

Versatile Applications and Usage Areas

L-Tyrosine is a highly versatile active ingredient, finding extensive use in cosmetic, dermatological, and even pharmaceutical and sports nutrition applications (not for use in candles).

Cosmetic Applications:

L-Tyrosine is a powerful addition to a wide array of skincare and haircare products, targeting specific concerns and enhancing overall vitality.

  • Anti-Pigmentation Creams: Due to its involvement in melanin synthesis, L-Tyrosine can be strategically used in formulations aimed at managing hyperpigmentation, working with other active ingredients to achieve a more even skin tone.
  • Sun Protection Products (Pre & Post-Sun Care): It can be incorporated into pre-tanning accelerators to support the skin's natural tanning process and in after-sun lotions to help soothe and restore skin after sun exposure. Its photoprotective properties also make it a valuable addition to sunscreens.
  • Anti-Stress Serums: Leverage its role in dopamine synthesis to formulate serums designed to improve skin's resilience to stress, leading to a healthier and calmer complexion.
  • Hair Growth Formulas: Its ability to strengthen hair and follicles makes it a key ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, and scalp treatments aimed at promoting healthy hair growth and reducing hair fall.
  • Anti-Aging Products: By stimulating cellular activity and supporting collagen/elastin synthesis, L-Tyrosine contributes to anti-aging creams and serums, helping to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines.
  • Skin Tone Improvement Preparations: Used in products designed to enhance overall skin tone and radiance, promoting a more luminous complexion.
  • Anti-Cellulite Creams and Gels: Can be found in anti-cellulite formulations due to its potential to stimulate cellular metabolism and improve skin firmness.
  • Anti-Fat Serums and Wraps: Often included in targeted body treatments aiming to improve skin texture and tone in areas prone to fat deposits.
  • Body Care Products: From scrubs and creams to massage oils, L-Tyrosine can be incorporated to enhance skin elasticity, promote cellular regeneration, and provide overall skin invigoration.
  • Firming Products for Eyelids and Body: Its skin-strengthening properties make it suitable for firming creams and gels for delicate areas like eyelids and various body parts.
  • Couperose Prevention: Due to its potential to improve microcirculation and strengthen capillary walls, L-Tyrosine can be part of formulations for the prevention and management of couperose (rosacea-like conditions).

Other Industries:

  • Nutricosmetics & Dietary Supplements: Often used in oral supplements aimed at improving skin health, hair growth, and overall well-being.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Employed as a diuretic and vasodilator, a cardiac stimulant, and in treatments for bronchopulmonary diseases.
  • Food Industry: Found in certain chocolates and beverages, sometimes utilized as a mild stimulant (an alternative to caffeine).
  • Sports Nutrition: Functions as a mild CNS stimulant, enhancing athletic performance and concentration.

Recommended Dosage:

  • 0.5–2% in serums and creams for general skin and hair benefits.
  • Up to 3% in pre and post-tanning products.
  • Up to 5% in hair products for targeted benefits.

Cosmetic Recipe: "Sun-Kissed Radiance" Pre-Tanning Enhancing Lotion

Create a light, hydrating lotion designed to prepare your skin for sun exposure and support a beautiful, even tan, incorporating L-Tyrosine for enhanced melanin synthesis and photoprotection.

Ingredient Percentage (%) Function
Phase A (Aqueous Phase)
Distilled Water Up to 100% (approx. 85%) Base of the lotion
Glycerin 3% Humectant, draws moisture to the skin
Phase B (Oil Phase)
Emulsifying Wax (e.g., Polawax) 4% Emulsifier, binds water and oil phases
Jojoba Oil 3% Non-comedogenic, deeply moisturizing
Shea Butter 2% Nourishing, emollient, skin conditioning
Phase C (Cool Down Phase - Add below 40°C)
L-Tyrosine 3% Melanin synthesis stimulator, photoprotection
D-Panthenol (Vitamin B5) 1% Soothes, moisturizes, promotes skin healing
Allantoin 0.5% Skin conditioning, soothing, keratolytic
Preservative (e.g., Geogard 221) 1% Protects against microbial growth
Fragrance Oil (optional, skin-safe) 0.5% Provides pleasant scent

Instructions for Preparation:

  1. Sanitization: Thoroughly sanitize all equipment (beakers, stirring rods, scales, lotion bottles) with isopropyl alcohol and allow them to air dry completely.
  2. Prepare Phase A (Aqueous Phase): In a heat-resistant beaker, combine distilled water and glycerin. Heat to 70-75°C (158-167°F).
  3. Prepare Phase B (Oil Phase): In a separate heat-resistant beaker, combine emulsifying wax, jojoba oil, and shea butter. Heat to 70-75°C (158-167°F) until all solid ingredients are completely melted.
  4. Emulsification: Slowly pour the heated aqueous phase (Phase A) into the heated oil phase (Phase B) while continuously stirring with a hand blender or whisk on low speed. Continue blending until a homogeneous, creamy emulsion forms.
  5. Cool Down: Allow the emulsion to cool, stirring intermittently, until the temperature drops below 40°C (104°F). This is essential for adding heat-sensitive ingredients.
  6. Add Phase C (Cool Down Phase): Once the lotion is below 40°C, add the L-Tyrosine, D-Panthenol, Allantoin, preservative, and optional fragrance oil. Stir thoroughly for 2-3 minutes to ensure all ingredients are fully incorporated and the L-Tyrosine is dissolved.
  7. Check pH (Recommended): Test the pH of the finished lotion. For a body lotion, an ideal pH range is typically 5.0-6.0. Adjust if necessary by adding a tiny drop of diluted lactic acid to lower pH or diluted baking soda solution to raise pH.
  8. Bottle: Carefully transfer the finished lotion into a clean, sterile lotion bottle.

Recommendations for Use:

  • Solubility of L-Tyrosine: Since L-Tyrosine is poorly soluble in cold water but soluble in hot water, ensure it's either dissolved in a small amount of hot water (and then cooled) or added directly to the cooling emulsion at a temperature where it can still dissolve, before adding other heat-sensitive ingredients. In this recipe, it's added during the cool-down phase, relying on the residual heat of the emulsion for dissolution.
  • Pre-Tanning Application: Apply the "Sun-Kissed Radiance" lotion to clean skin daily for at least a week before intentional sun exposure to help prepare the skin.
  • After-Sun Care: It can also be used as a soothing after-sun lotion to support skin recovery.
  • Dosage: The 3% concentration of L-Tyrosine in this pre-tanning lotion is within the recommended range for sun care products, supporting melanin production.
  • SPF Protection: This lotion is NOT a substitute for sunscreen. Always use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with adequate SPF when exposed to the sun.
  • Storage: Store the finished lotion in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, to maintain its stability and efficacy.
