Kojic acid is a naturally derived compound produced through fungal fermentation. It is widely used for skin tone enhancement, antioxidant action, and hydration improvement — effective at concentrations from 0.5 % to 2 %.

Key benefits include:

• Inhibits tyrosinase to reduce melanin overproduction, leading to a more uniform complexion.

Application formats:

• Brightening fluid formulations: 1–1.5 % kojic acid, combined with 3 % niacinamide and 1 % peptide Pal-GHK for rejuvenated radiance.

• Ampoules and high-strength serums: 2 % kojic acid, 4 % Matrixyl 3000 peptide complex, 0.5 % propylene glycol for improved penetration.

• Toners and essences: containing 0.4 % kojic acid, 4 % glycerin, 1 % sorbitol, buffered to pH ~5.5 for daily use.

• Hydrogel patches: 1.2 % active ingredient and 0.5 % tightening peptide to reduce discoloration and provide a lifting effect.

DIY “Light Hydrogel Elixir” recipe (50 ml):

1. Base – hydrating gel: deionized water 22 ml, chamomile extract (2 %) — 1 ml, panthenol 3 ml.

2. Thickening agent: xanthan gum 0.4 % (~0.2 g).

3. Active blend:

   • Kojic acid 1.1 % (~0.55 ml).

   • Matrixyl 3000 peptide 1 % (~0.5 ml).

   • Combination of low and high MW hyaluronic acid 1 % (~0.5 ml).

4. Humectants: sorbitol 1.5 % (~0.75 ml), glycerin 3 % (~1.5 ml).

5. Preservative system: Phenoxyethanol + Ethylhexylglycerin at 1 %.

6. pH buffer: citric & phosphoric acids — pH ~5.3–5.6.

7. Fragrance blend: 0.12 % — a soft floral signature.

Preparation procedure:

• Combine water base with xanthan gum at ~65 °C, stir until uniform gel forms.

• Cool to 38–40 °C, then incorporate the active blend.

• Adjust pH, then add preservative and fragrance.

• Fill into sterile pump container, store at 18–22 °C away from direct light.

Target skin profiles:

• Suitable for sensitive and pigmentation-prone skin types.

• Ideal for dull, mature skin needing brightening and a lifting touch.

• Recommended routine: evening application for 4–6 weeks, morning SPF essential.
