Building rich cream textures with a versatile fatty alcohol based emulsifier
ERCAWAX CE V is a non-ionic emulsifier commonly used to formulate thick, nourishing cream textures across a wide range of personal care products. The 50 gram size is well suited for home formulators and small studios who want to test a recipe on a limited scale before committing to larger production. This ingredient belongs to the Emulsifiers section, which brings together substances responsible for uniting oil and water phases into a stable, homogeneous system.
The most common use of this emulsifier is in facial and body creams, balms, and thicker hair care emulsions where a dense, velvety texture with good spreadability is desired. It is also occasionally used in household chemical products such as shoe creams and polishing pastes, where a stable oil in water structure is required for consistent performance and long shelf stability.
In practice, the emulsifier is added to the oil phase along with other fatty ingredients and heated to around 70-75 degrees Celsius, then combined with the water phase heated to a matching temperature. Keeping both phases at similar temperatures during mixing helps avoid premature solidification and ensures a smooth, lump free result. Typical usage rates range from 3 to 8 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired thickness and stability of the final product.
For lighter serums and fluid textures, formulators often turn to Olivem 2020 Emulsifier 25 g, while cold process formulations that skip the heating stage typically rely on Emulsifier Cellike 10 g. When a recipe needs extra protection against phase separation during extended storage, Emulsifier Emulsiphos 100 g can serve as a supporting stabilizer within the same batch.
Store the emulsifier in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, keeping the container tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption. Under proper storage conditions the product retains its functional properties for a long period. The small 50 gram pack makes it convenient for lab trials and testing concentration levels before scaling a formula up to larger batch production.
Whipped body butter with cocoa and shea
Distilled water 60 grams
Shea butter 12 grams
Cocoa butter 10 grams
ERCAWAX CE V 6 grams
Glycerin 5 grams
Preservative 2 grams
Vanilla fragrance oil 1 gram
Melt
the shea butter, cocoa butter and emulsifier together in a heatproof container
over a water bath until reaching 70-75 degrees Celsius, and separately warm the
water with glycerin to the same temperature. Slowly pour the water phase into
the oil phase while stirring continuously, keep mixing as the blend cools down
to around 38-40 degrees, then whisk in the preservative and fragrance oil, and
transfer the finished cream into a clean jar for storage.
