Working with Chestnut CO2 Extract for Circulation-Focused Formulas
Chestnut CO2 extract is produced through carbon dioxide extraction of horse chestnut seeds under low temperature and pressure, a method that preserves a dense concentration of natural bioactive compounds without leaving solvent residues behind. This extraction technique is valued across cosmetic and pharmaceutical manufacturing for delivering a clean, potent concentrate rich in saponins, flavonoids and tannins, compounds known for strengthening capillary walls and supporting skin tone. This concentrate belongs to the CO2 Extracts category, which brings together some of the most concentrated botanical extracts used in professional formulation work.
The primary application of chestnut extract lies in leg and body care products, particularly formulas aimed at reducing tiredness, swelling and heaviness in the legs. It is widely used in developing anti-varicose creams and gels, massage products, and anti-cellulite cosmetics, where strengthening vessel walls and improving microcirculation are central goals. Beyond that, chestnut extract appears in eye creams designed to reduce puffiness and dark circles, as well as in after-sun and post-depilation products thanks to its calming effect on irritated skin. Within the pharmaceutical field, similar chestnut extracts are used in topical venotonic formulations intended to support vascular health.
The 5 gram packaging is suited for home-based cosmetic making and small trial batches, giving hobbyist formulators, cosmetologists and small workshops a practical way to test the concentrate before committing to a larger production run. Recommended dosage in finished products ranges from 0.1 to 1 percent of the total formula weight, and it should be added during the cooling phase of an emulsion at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees Celsius to preserve its active compounds. The extract pairs well with other CO2 concentrates, such as Grape Seed CO2 Extract 5 g for boosting antioxidant support, and Hop CO2 Extract 5 g for formulas aimed at overall skin tone. For warming massage blends and spicy aromatic compositions, Clove CO2 Extract 5 g is often introduced alongside it for an added stimulating sensation.
Store the extract in a tightly sealed container, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, in a cool dark place to maintain its potency throughout the shelf life. If the concentrate thickens after refrigeration, gently warm the container in a water bath before use.
