A Resin-Based Botanical Concentrate for Restorative Skin Formulas
Dragon's Blood Extract is a dry powdered concentrate derived from the deep red resin of tropical trees of the croton and dragon tree genera, native to South America and Southeast Asia. This ingredient belongs to the category of Powdered Extracts and Algae, and among other dry botanical concentrates it stands out for its rich content of natural polyphenols and tannins, which have long made the resin valued in formulations aimed at supporting skin firmness and an even complexion. The strongest global demand for this raw material comes from manufacturers of anti-aging and restorative skincare, along with the cosmeceutical sector, where the extract is incorporated into serums, eye contour creams, recovery masks, and products for sensitive or post-procedure skin.
Beyond facial and body care, the powder is also used in the production of natural wood stains and varnishes, where its resinous compounds give a deep reddish-brown tone and a protective finish, and in the fragrance industry as part of oriental and resinous accords. In the food sector the extract is occasionally used as a natural coloring agent for niche products, while dietary supplement manufacturers appreciate it for its content of plant-derived antioxidants. The 10 gram packaging is well suited to home formulators and small trial batches, allowing the concentration and behavior of the ingredient in a recipe to be tested before scaling up to larger production runs.
The extract is best introduced into the water or water-glycerin phase at the final stage of preparation, at a temperature not exceeding 40-45 degrees Celsius, to preserve the activity of its polyphenolic compounds. A typical recommended dosage ranges from 0.1 to 1 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired color intensity and effect. It pairs well with other botanical concentrates: in complex anti-aging serums it is often combined with Aronia Extract Powder, rich in anthocyanins, while Licorice Root Extract Powder is frequently added for its soothing properties. In formulas focused on skin barrier recovery, it works well alongside Snail Secret Extract Powder with high protein content, since both components complement each other in supporting skin repair.
The dry extract should be stored in a tightly sealed container, in a dry and dark place, at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture, which can reduce the stability of its active compounds. When stored properly, the powder retains its properties for an extended period, making it a convenient raw material for occasional use in small formulation batches.
