Guaiacwood Essential Oil for Fine Fragrance Cosmetics and Home Scent
Guaiacwood Essential Oil is a natural woody aromatic material obtained by steam distillation of Bulnesia sarmientoi wood. It offers a smooth, warm scent with smoky timber, balsamic resin, subtle sweetness, and soft tea-like nuances. Within the Mylo Opt catalog, the ingredient is listed in the Essential Oils category.
The material is widely valued in fine fragrance because its profile is softer and more rounded than many sharp coniferous oils. It can suggest warm wood, gentle smoke, dried leaves, resin, and a slightly creamy balsamic background.
Guaiacwood oil may become viscous, cloudy, or partly solid at cooler temperatures. When necessary, the tightly closed container can be warmed gently in a water bath until the material becomes uniform and easy to measure.
Use as a perfume base note
Guaiacwood is primarily used in the base of a fragrance. It develops gradually, adds depth, and supports more volatile citrus, floral, and aromatic notes.
For dry woody structures, it blends with cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli, cypress, and juniper. Rich balsamic compositions may combine it with frankincense, benzoin, labdanum, vanilla, or amber accords.
A small amount can give rose, violet, jasmine, or ylang-ylang a darker and more sophisticated background. It is also effective in leather, spice, incense, and smoky fragrance concepts where a harsh burned effect is not desired.
The material is suitable for masculine, feminine, and unisex perfumes, particularly evening, autumn, winter, and meditative fragrance collections.
Cosmetic formulation
Guaiacwood Essential Oil may be used as an aromatic component in body oils, massage blends, creams, balms, body butters, solid perfumes, and spa products.
For anhydrous formulas, pre-dilution in jojoba oil, MCT oil, squalane, sweet almond oil, or another neutral emollient helps distribute the viscous material evenly.
In emulsions, incorporate the oil during cool-down below 40°C. It may first be blended with a small portion of the lipid phase before being added to the completed emulsion.
Its warm woody character works particularly well in men's grooming, botanical spa ranges, massage products, and fragrance concepts inspired by timber, smoke, and natural resins.
Soap and solid fragrance
In handmade soap, Guaiacwood Essential Oil provides a deep woody foundation. It combines well with bergamot, sweet orange, grapefruit, lavender, cedarwood, patchouli, and frankincense.
A pilot batch is recommended because alkaline processing and curing can change the strength and balance of natural aromatic materials.
In solid perfumes, Guaiacwood forms a smooth base within blends of wax, botanical butter, and carrier oil. Its slow development is useful for compact perfumes and aromatic balms.
Candles and interior fragrance
The oil is suitable for candles, wax melts, sachets, and diffuser formulas inspired by fireplaces, smoked wood, forest resins, tea, and warm interiors.
For candles, the final loading level must be established through testing in the selected wax. Diffuser blends require evaluation for solubility, clarity, sediment, stability, and evaporation performance.
INCI, handling, and storage
INCI: Bulnesia Sarmientoi Wood Oil.
The characteristic aroma is created by naturally occurring sesquiterpene compounds.
A general starting range is 0.2-8% in fragrance concentrates, 0.05-0.5% in body care, and 0.1-1% in soap. Candles and diffusers require individual base testing.
Store in a tightly sealed dark container away from direct light, excessive heat, and prolonged air exposure.
