Product Description
One raw material, two industries — from joint-support capsules to skin serums
Chondroitin sulfate is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan found in cartilage and connective tissue, produced by the body itself. Historically, the largest global demand for this raw material comes from the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical sector: capsules, tablets and powder blends supporting joint mobility represent the biggest application segment worldwide. A notable share of demand also comes from ophthalmic solutions and veterinary formulations. At the same time, there is a separate and steadily growing niche in cosmetic manufacturing, where chondroitin sulfate is valued as an active moisturizing ingredient, which is why the product is listed under Moisturizing actives.
In skin formulations, chondroitin sulfate works similarly to hyaluronic acid, but due to its larger molecular size it forms a thin film on the epidermis surface that reduces transepidermal water loss and gives skin a smoother feel. This mechanism is widely used in intensive hydration serums, anti-aging creams, sheet and cream masks, eye-contour products, and after-shave or post-procedure recovery formulas. The ingredient pairs well with other humectants and film formers: a strong synergy appears when combined with urea, which reinforces water binding in the stratum corneum, as well as with targeted botanical actives such as PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica, which supports skin firmness. In multifunctional systems chondroitin complements Abisoft, delivering a combined film-forming and emollient effect.
In cosmetic emulsions and serums the typical working concentration ranges from 0.5 to 2% of the total formula weight. The ingredient is added to the water phase at the final cooling stage, at a temperature not exceeding 35–40 degrees Celsius, to prevent the polymer structure from breaking down under excessive heat. Chondroitin sulfate remains stable across a wide pH range, allowing it to be combined with almost any other active without loss of performance. The 1 kg pack size is aimed at production laboratories, contract manufacturing sites and small pharmaceutical or cosmetic facilities that need a consistent volume of raw material for batch calculations without frequent reordering. The powder should be stored in an airtight container, in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, since its hygroscopic nature requires protection from ambient moisture.
