Process notes

The oil's colour can tint pale products, so check the shade again when scaling up. Body products typically use 0.2 to 0.5 %, facial products 0.05 to 0.2 %, and the safety assessment confirms final levels. For several products in one line, prepare a fragrance premix in the approved ratio.

Why osmanthus is so valued

Osmanthus has been cultivated in China for well over two thousand years, and the city of Guilin even takes its name from the plant. Huge quantities of flowers are needed for a small amount of aromatic material, which is why it sits among the more precious floral notes in perfumery. That value is one more reason to handle a large container carefully: every opening lets in air, and every degree of heat speeds up ageing.

Production example: dry body oil, 5 L

Combine 2.4 L of caprylic/capric triglyceride, 1.5 L of apricot kernel oil and 1 L of squalane in a stainless steel vessel. Add 25 ml of tocopherol, 15 ml of osmanthus oil and 10 ml of mandarin oil, stir thoroughly and fill into spray bottles. Apricot kernel oil and other carriers are in wholesale liquid oils. Storage

Keep the container in a cool, dark room, close it after use and dispense from a smaller working bottle.

Pre-blending at scale

Mix the osmanthus with its supporting notes in a separate vessel before each run and let the blend mature for two days. A rested pre-blend smells rounder and keeps batches consistent. Keep a reference sample of every batch in a small bottle for comparison with later runs.

Storage

Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, dark store and decant into smaller bottles after opening.
