Cutina PES nonionic emulsifier for controlled texture and stable oil in water systems
Cutina PES is a nonionic emulsifier designed for building stable oil in water emulsions with predictable viscosity and consistent structure. It is used in cosmetic formulations where reproducibility scalability and long term stability are required. The ingredient is commonly applied in creams lotions and emulsion based skin care systems.
What it is and where it is used
Cutina PES functions as a primary emulsifier in formulations that combine aqueous and oil phases into a uniform product. It is used in facial creams body lotions hand care products and emulsion based treatments.
The material is selected in development where stable droplet distribution and controlled texture are needed. It is also used in spa and professional formulations where consistency between batches is critical.
How it works
Cutina PES reduces interfacial tension between oil and water phases allowing dispersion of oil droplets within the aqueous phase. The emulsifier molecules create a stabilizing layer around droplets which prevents coalescence.
This mechanism supports formation of a stable emulsion that maintains structure during storage when properly formulated.
Properties
Supports formation of stable oil in water emulsions
Provides smooth and uniform texture
Enables control of viscosity and flow
Compatible with vegetable oils esters and actives
Works in structured cream and lotion systems
Maintains stability under standard storage conditions
Applications across industries
In cosmetic production it is used in creams lotions emulsions and masks
In skin care it supports structured and repeatable formulations
In spa products it is used in cream based systems
In formulation development it is used as a core emulsifier for oil in water products
Behavior in formulation
Cutina PES is added to the oil phase and requires melting for activation. It becomes functional after emulsification and cooling.
It is often combined with fatty alcohols such as Cetyl Alcohol or Cetearyl Alcohol to improve structure and stability. The final viscosity depends on total oil phase and co structuring agents.
How to use
Add to oil phase before emulsification
Heat to full melting point before combining phases
Use sufficient mixing energy to form stable emulsion
Allow system to structure during cooling
Recommended usage level
2 to 6 percent depending on formulation goals
Lower levels for fluid emulsions
Higher levels for thicker creams
Formulation example
Balanced face cream with controlled texture
Purified Water — 700 ml
Glycerin — 50 ml
Cutina PES — 55 g
Caprylic Capric Triglyceride — 90 ml
Cetearyl Alcohol — 25 g
Jojoba Oil — 40 ml
Panthenol — 10 ml
Niacinamide — 20 g
Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin — 5 ml
Neutral Fragrance Oil — 3 ml
Processing
Water and oil phases are heated separately until all solid components in the oil phase including Cutina PES are fully melted.
The oil phase is added to the water phase under mixing to form an emulsion. The system is homogenized and then cooled with continuous mixing.
Panthenol Niacinamide Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin and Neutral Fragrance Oil are added during cooling. Mixing continues until uniform structure is achieved.
Important considerations
Cutina PES is not a cold process emulsifier and requires heating
Final viscosity is influenced by fatty alcohol content and oil phase ratio
Proper mixing and cooling are required to build stable structure
Performance depends on full formulation balance not only emulsifier level
