Scots Pine Essential Oil from Ukraine
This oil is steam distilled from the needles and young twigs of Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris, the most common conifer of Ukrainian forests. The product card gives the INCI name Pinus silvestris Essential Oil, Ukraine as the country of production and a 1 L container.
Composition
Scots pine oil consists mostly of monoterpenes: alpha-pinene, delta-3-carene, beta-pinene, limonene and myrcene, plus bornyl acetate, which softens the scent. See the certificate of analysis for lot figures.
Odour
Fresh, resinous, clean forest pine with a light balsamic note.
Applications
Bath and spa
Bath salts and oils, sauna products and massage blends with a coniferous scent.
Body care
Shower gels, refreshing lotions and foot products.
Room fragrance
Diffusers, sprays and seasonal festive blends.
Usage guidance
Scots pine oil is used at 0.5 to 1 % in leave-on products and up to 2 % in rinse-off products. Work it in below 40 °C, using a solubiliser for water-based systems. Oxidised monoterpenes can irritate skin, so use the oil fresh and include an antioxidant in the product.
Compatibility and handling
Pine blends with eucalyptus, fir, lemon, rosemary and juniper. Limonene must be declared as an allergen on EU labels above thresholds. Keep bulk containers full by decanting into smaller ones as you go.
