Why green polyethylene beads remain a reliable choice for exfoliating formulas
Green polyethylene microbeads supplied in a 1 kg pack belong to the group of spherical polymer abrasives that form the mechanical base of most scrubs for cosmetic production, whether intended for body, hand, or foot care. Their smooth rounded shape allows firm massaging action without scratching the skin, which is why the material suits both home experimentation and small studio manufacturing runs. A 1 kg package is a practical middle ground for workshops, indie brands, and small production lines that need a steady, moderate supply rather than a bulk industrial quantity.
The most common use of these beads is in body, elbow, heel, and knee polishing formulas, where a visible yet controlled abrasive action is expected. The green shade is frequently chosen for mint, cucumber, tea, or citrus themed products, since the color visually reinforces the sense of freshness. Beyond personal care, polyethylene beads are also used in industrial and household abrasive hand cleaning pastes for removing grease, resin, and ink, in surface polishing compounds, and as a filler in certain technical pastes where uniform mechanical action without surface damage is required.
Beads should be introduced at the final stage of formulation, into a base cooled to around 35-45 degrees Celsius, with gentle mixing and no further heating. Polyethylene softens at higher temperatures, so blending it into a hot phase deforms the particles and reduces their abrasive value. Typical dosage for body scrubs ranges from 5 to 20 percent of the finished product weight, while more delicate areas call for 3 to 8 percent. The beads combine well with gel and cream bases, oils, extracts, and fragrance compositions without reacting chemically, which keeps formulation predictable when scaling production.
For a more distinctive texture, green beads are often paired with white polyethylene microgranules to create a contrasting two-tone finish, or combined with natural abrasives such as sesame scrub, blending polymer and botanical exfoliation in a single product. For a ready starting point, a balanced gel scrub base works well, requiring only the addition of the desired bead concentration and shade.
Store the beads in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, in a tightly sealed container to prevent clumping and moisture absorption. Under proper storage conditions the material retains stable mechanical properties for a long period, which matters when building inventory for consistent production runs.
Cooling mint body polish with green beads
Neutral gel base 160 g
Green polyethylene microbeads 25 g
Sweet almond oil 10 g
Distilled water 10 ml
Peppermint essential oil 1 ml
Combine
the gel base with almond oil and water, mixing until smooth and uniform. Cool
the mixture to 35-40 degrees Celsius, then fold in the polyethylene beads
together with the peppermint essential oil, stirring gently with a spatula
until the particles are evenly distributed without breaking. Transfer the
finished polish into wide-neck jars and let it stabilize for 24 hours at room
temperature before first use.
