Industrial and Cosmetic Roles of Polyethylene Microgranules
White polyethylene microgranules are a free-flowing, spherical material with consistent particle size that is valued across industries for its hardness, chemical stability and inertness. One of the widely recognized uses of this raw material is within the Scrubs for Cosmetic Production category, where the rounded granules serve as a gentle mechanical exfoliant for body and facial scrubs, buffing away dead skin without sharp edges that could irritate the surface.
Still, the largest share of global demand for these microgranules comes from industrial sectors. In aerospace and heavy machinery maintenance, similar plastic media are used as an abrasive for plastic media blasting, stripping old paint layers from aluminum panels and composite parts without damaging the underlying substrate. In the coatings and paint industry, the granules act as a matting and anti-blocking agent, reducing gloss and preventing films from sticking together during storage. Printing companies rely on microgranules to give inks a matte finish and improved rub resistance on packaging and labels. Candle manufacturers blend polyethylene into paraffin or wax bases to increase hardness, reduce warping during storage and support a more even burn. The material is also common in hot melt adhesive formulations and technical polymer compounds, where it functions as a filler that helps control melt viscosity during processing.
In skincare and color cosmetics, the microgranules are typically dosed at 3 to 15 percent of the total formula weight in scrubs, shower gels and cleansing pastes, depending on the desired exfoliation intensity. They should be added during the cooling phase, once the base has dropped below 40-45 degrees Celsius, since higher temperatures can distort the spherical shape of the particles. The granules blend smoothly with plant-based exfoliants such as Naturall scrub granules, allowing formulators to combine a soft synthetic peeling effect with natural texture. For a decorative touch in transparent gels, many producers include Vitamin E Unispheres Green, while a more pronounced botanical scrubbing action can be achieved with the Mung Beans Organic Scrub.
The 1 kg package size fits studio-scale and small-batch production well, giving formulators enough material to test scrub, paste and wax recipes and to run trial batches before scaling up to larger production runs. Store the material in a dry area at room temperature, in a tightly sealed container, away from direct heat sources and heaters to prevent the granules from clumping together.
Refreshing Face Scrub Gel
White polyethylene microgranules 35 g
Sweet almond oil 70 ml
Cosmetic emulsifier 18 g
Naturall scrub granules 12 g
Vitamin E Unispheres Green 8 g
Fragrance oil 3 ml
Distilled water 140 ml
Heat
the water together with the emulsifier to about 70 degrees Celsius, warming the
almond oil separately to the same temperature, then combine the oil phase into
the water phase while stirring continuously until a uniform emulsion forms.
Cool the mixture down to about 40 degrees Celsius before folding in the
polyethylene microgranules, the Naturall scrub granules, the unispheres and the
fragrance oil, mixing gently so the particles distribute evenly without losing
their shape. Pour the finished scrub into jars and let it stabilize at room
temperature for about a day before use.
