Turmeric Essential Oil, 1 L
Turmeric, Curcuma longa, is a perennial of the ginger family widely known as a spice. Its essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizomes. The product card lists the INCI name Curcuma longa Oil, France as the country of production and a 1 L container.
The essential oil is not the same as curcumin. The yellow pigment curcumin does not distil with steam, so turmeric essential oil is usually pale yellow to amber and does not stain products the way turmeric powder does.
Composition and odour
The key constituents are the sesquiterpene ketones ar-turmerone, turmerone and curlone. The odour is warm, spicy, slightly woody and earthy with a fresh, ginger-like lift. Check the certificate of analysis for the exact profile of the lot.
Applications

Turmeric brings an unusual warm spice note to perfumes, body products and shower gels.
Body care

Men’s grooming
Spicy accents in balms and aftershaves.
Usage guidance
Turmeric oil is used at 0.5 to 1 % in leave-on products and up to 2 % in rinse-off products. Blend it into the oils once the batch has cooled below 40 °C, and use a solubiliser in water-based products.
Compatibility
Ginger, orange, cardamom, frankincense, sandalwood and vetiver are natural partners. The ketones are fairly stable, but closed containers and cool storage still matter.
