Xylitol plant derived polyol for aqueous systems in food cosmetic and process formulations
Xylitol is a plant-based polyol used as a fully water-soluble component in formulations that require a stable and uniform hydrophilic environment. It is produced from botanical raw materials through controlled processing to ensure consistent performance across industrial applications. This ingredient is applied in food systems, nutraceutical formulations, cosmetic products, pharmaceutical solutions, spa applications and technical processes where compatibility with the water phase is essential.
From a formulation perspective, xylitol contributes to the structuring of the aqueous phase by supporting even distribution of components. It dissolves rapidly and integrates without disturbing formulation balance, allowing multi-component systems to remain homogeneous. Its molecular characteristics help maintain stability during storage and processing, making it suitable for both liquid and reconstituted formulations.
In food applications, xylitol is incorporated into beverages, confectionery mixtures and liquid bases as part of the aqueous phase. In nutraceutical use, it is included in liquid delivery systems and powder blends designed for dilution. In pharmaceutical formulations, it is used in syrups and solution-based systems. In cosmetic applications, it is added to gels, serums, toners and cleansing products where a stable water phase is required. In spa formulations, it is used in aqueous treatment systems. In industrial contexts, it serves as a component of process liquids and formulation bases.
Functionally, xylitol operates within the hydrophilic matrix to support homogeneous distribution and maintain system stability. It enhances compatibility between water-soluble ingredients and enables the formation of clear, uniform solutions without separation.
In formulation practice, xylitol is introduced into the water phase and dissolved under mixing. It is compatible with glycerin, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, botanical extracts, surfactants and preservative systems. It can be used as a base component or as a functional additive in more complex formulations.
Usage level is defined by formulation requirements and adjusted according to system design and performance expectations.
Example formulation: Hydrating gel with polyol base
Purified water 62 ml
Xylitol 13 g
Glycerin 5 g
Xanthan gum 0.7 g
Hyaluronic acid solution 1% 10 ml
Panthenol 3 g
Beta glucan 2 g
Preservative 1 g
pH adjuster 3.3 g
Process: xylitol is dissolved in water until a clear solution is obtained. Glycerin and xanthan gum are then added to form the gel structure. After stabilization, hyaluronic acid, panthenol and beta glucan are incorporated. Preservative is added and pH is adjusted. The mixture is blended until uniform and filled.
Example formulation: Concentrated aqueous system with xylitol
Purified water 57 ml
Xylitol 23 g
Glycerin 5 g
Botanical extract 5 g
Preservative 1 g
pH adjuster 9 g
Process: xylitol is dissolved in water under mixing until fully homogeneous. Glycerin and botanical extract are then incorporated. Preservative is added followed by pH adjustment. The final system is stabilized and filled.
Xylitol is used as a versatile hydrophilic raw material across multiple industries, supporting stable aqueous systems, uniform distribution of ingredients and compatibility with a wide range of formulation components.
