Understanding Kinetin's Role in Slowing Down Skin Aging Signs
Kinetin is a plant cytokinin originally studied in agriculture for extending the freshness of cut flowers and vegetables by slowing the natural aging of plant cells. Researchers later discovered a similar effect on human skin cells, and today kinetin is recognized as one of the most studied ingredients for reducing visible signs of aging. This is why the ingredient belongs to the Anti-Age Actives section, where concentrated actives for firmness and elasticity formulas are gathered.
The 1 gram packaging is particularly convenient for home-based cosmetic making and small trial batches, since working dosages of kinetin are quite low, typically ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 percent of the total formula weight. It should be added during the cold phase, at the final stage of formulation, at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius to preserve the active molecule. Store the raw material in a dry, cool place, preferably refrigerated, in a tightly sealed container away from moisture and light.
Kinetin pairs well with other anti-aging actives, enhancing the overall performance of a formula. It is often combined with Sodium Piruvate, 5 g, which supports cellular energy metabolism and helps even out skin tone, as well as with Lactokine Fluid, 20 g for extra hydration and barrier reinforcement. Another good partner is FSS Phyto-Oil C3 10 g, which lightens the texture and improves the penetration of active ingredients into the upper layers of the epidermis.
The main application of kinetin is in leave-on skincare for the face and neck area: night and day creams, serums, emulsions, masks, and concentrates targeted at mature skin. Beyond the cosmetic industry, the compound is also used in agricultural technologies to extend the shelf life of cut plants and in research laboratories studying cellular aging mechanisms. At home, kinetin is best introduced into a finished base in small portions, mixed thoroughly to avoid local overconcentration of the active substance.
Light Anti-Age Serum with Kinetin
Distilled water 40 ml
Aloe vera gel 10 ml
Vegetable glycerin 3 ml
Kinetin 0.03 g
Broad spectrum preservative 0.5 ml
Combine
the water, aloe vera gel, and glycerin until smooth, then gently warm the
mixture over a water bath to about 35-38 degrees Celsius and remove from heat.
Allow it to cool to room temperature, then add kinetin pre-dissolved in a small
amount of water and mix thoroughly. Finally, add the preservative, transfer the
serum into a glass dropper bottle, and store it in a cool dark place for no
longer than two months.
