Plantain CO2 Extract as a Concentrated Base for Skin-Calming Formulas
Plantain CO2 extract is produced through supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, a method that preserves a wide range of naturally occurring active compounds without the use of chemical solvents or excessive heat. This makes the concentrate especially valuable for formulators working with sensitive, irritated or reactive skin types. The product belongs to the CO2 Extracts category, which brings together concentrated botanical extracts used in professional and industrial cosmetic manufacturing.
The main demand for plantain CO2 extract comes from the personal care and cosmetics industry: creams and serums for irritated skin, formulations for sensitive and redness-prone complexions, baby care lines, after-shave and post-depilation products, lip balms, and skin barrier repair products. The extract is also used in hand and foot care products, in soothing home care items, and occasionally in topical pharmaceutical-adjacent formulations that require a highly purified botanical concentrate. It pairs well with other plant-based CO2 concentrates: for multifunctional serums it is often combined with Parsley CO2 Extract to support an even skin tone, while antioxidant-focused formulas benefit from adding CO2 Extract of Green Coffee. For anti-aging or firming lines, a good partner is Artichoke CO2 Extract, known for its detoxifying properties.
The recommended usage rate for plantain extract in a finished formula is typically between 0.3 and 2 percent of total mass, depending on the concentration of active fractions and the intended purpose of the product. It should be added at the final cooling stage of production, at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, to protect heat-sensitive components. The extract is compatible with most modern emulsifiers, preservatives and thickeners, and blends easily with carrier oils and water-soluble active complexes.
Storage should be in a tightly sealed dark glass container, kept in a cool, dry place away from direct light and at a temperature not exceeding room temperature. When these conditions are respected, the product retains its declared properties for the full stated shelf life. The 100 g package size is well suited to small-batch and studio-scale production as well as trial batches before scaling a formula, making it a practical volume for cosmetic studios and small manufacturing lines that value a stable supply of raw material.
Soothing Recovery Serum with Plantain Extract
Distilled water 55 g
Aloe vera juice 20 g
Gel emulsifier 4 g
Squalane 8 g
Plantain CO2 extract 2 g

Combine the distilled water, aloe vera juice and glycerin in a clean container, then gradually add the gel emulsifier while stirring until fully dissolved. Warm the squalane slightly to around 35 degrees, blend it into the water phase and mix thoroughly until the texture becomes smooth.
