Why pomegranate CO2 concentrate is valued in antioxidant skincare formulas
Pomegranate CO2 extract is obtained through liquefied carbon dioxide extraction from the seeds and peel of the fruit, a method that preserves a high concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols and natural polyphenols without solvents or heat exposure. This extraction technique is one of the main reasons formulators choose CO2 concentrates over traditional macerated oils. The product belongs to the CO2 Extracts category, which brings together the most technologically advanced botanical concentrates used across cosmetic manufacturing.
The primary use of pomegranate CO2 extract is in antioxidant skincare production: anti-aging creams, firmness-restoring serums, eye area formulations and products aimed at tired or mature skin. It is also widely used in nourishing lip balms, after-sun repair formulas, and skincare-infused makeup such as tinted moisturizers and BB creams. In smaller niches it appears in solid oil bars, fruity perfume compositions, and occasionally in cold-process soap formulas as an enrichment ingredient.
The extract blends well with carrier oils such as jojoba and shea butter, as well as with other CO2 concentrates. Combined with Rosehip CO2 Extract, it enhances the regenerative properties of a formula, while pairing it with Parsley CO2 Extract adds a brightening and toning effect. For anti-aging lines, pomegranate concentrate is frequently combined with the CO2 extract for mature skin, resulting in a complex antioxidant and firming action.
Recommended dosage ranges from 0.5 to 3 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the product type: 1-2 percent is typically sufficient for creams and serums, while oil blends and balms can tolerate up to 3 percent. The extract should be introduced during the cool phase of production, at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve the activity of fatty acids and antioxidants. Direct heating of the concentrate or adding it to a hot base is not advisable.
The 5 gram packaging is well suited for home-based cosmetic making, formulation testing and small trial batches, allowing formulators to evaluate the ingredient's performance without committing to large volumes. Store the extract in a tightly sealed container, in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations to maintain its stability over time.
