A Plant-Based Concentrate Supporting Microcirculation and Cellular Defense
Ginkgo biloba extract standardized to 25 percent active flavonoids is obtained from the leaves of the ginkgo tree through extraction and subsequent powder standardization. This ingredient belongs to the category of Powdered Extracts and Algae, which brings together concentrated plant and algae derivatives used across multiple production fields. The 10 gram package is well suited for small trial batches, formula testing, and home-scale cosmetic production, allowing formulators to evaluate performance before scaling up.
Globally, the strongest demand for ginkgo biloba extract comes from the dietary supplement and functional nutrition industry, where capsules and tablets based on this raw material are widely sold for supporting cognitive function and general vitality, a steady segment across pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets worldwide. The second major application area is skincare formulation, where the flavonoids and terpene lactones found in ginkgo are valued for strengthening capillary walls, improving local blood circulation, and acting as antioxidants that slow down cellular aging processes. Based on this extract, manufacturers develop eye area serums, anti-puffiness creams, products for skin prone to visible capillaries (couperose), as well as anti-cellulite formulas and hair care products that stimulate growth by improving nourishment to hair follicles.
In skincare formulations, ginkgo extract is typically introduced into the water phase at a concentration of 0.1 to 1 percent, during the cooling stage of an emulsion at temperatures not exceeding 40-45 degrees Celsius, to avoid degrading heat sensitive flavonoids. For serums and toners, the powder can be dissolved directly into the finished water base without heating, after being pre-dissolved in a small amount of warm water or glycerin. In the food and pharmaceutical industries, the extract is used in capsule filling, tablet compression, and liquid formulations, where precise dosing of the active compound matters most.
Ginkgo extract combines well with other botanical concentrates that reinforce vascular support and antioxidant activity. In toning and strengthening formulas it is often paired with Witch Hazel Extract Powder, known for supporting vascular tone and reducing puffiness. In antioxidant serums and facial toners, ginkgo is frequently combined with Orange Extract Powder, rich in vitamin C and supportive of even skin tone. For energizing and toning creams and masks, formulators use it alongside Coffee Extract Powder, which adds a draining and stimulating effect to the composition.
Store the extract in a dry place away from direct light, in a tightly sealed container, at room temperature, avoiding contact with moisture, since the powder is hygroscopic and may clump when exposed to air.
