Working With Blueberry Anthocyanins in Cosmetic and Food Batches
Blueberry berry extract is produced through gentle water-alcohol-glycerin extraction of fresh berries, which preserves a high concentration of anthocyanins - the natural pigments responsible for the deep blue color of blueberries and their strong antioxidant activity. This ingredient belongs to the Liquid Extracts category, a group of plant-based extracts widely used across cosmetic, food and pharmaceutical manufacturing worldwide.
The largest share of demand for blueberry extract comes from the cosmetic industry, where it functions as an antioxidant and anti-aging component. It is commonly formulated into facial creams and serums, toners, body gels and lotions, masks, as well as hair care products such as shampoos and conditioners, where it helps reduce oxidative stress caused by UV exposure and environmental pollution. In color cosmetics the extract appears in nourishing lip balms and tinted care bases. Beyond cosmetics, blueberry extract is actively used in the food industry to enrich beverages, yogurts, desserts and confectionery with natural antioxidants and a mild berry note, as well as in nutraceutical production - syrups, capsules and general wellness supplements.
Recommended dosage in cosmetic formulations typically ranges from 1 to 5 percent of total mass, while dosage in beverages and food products is adjusted individually depending on the desired intensity. The extract should be added at the final stage of formulation, at temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, since anthocyanins are heat-sensitive and degrade under prolonged high-temperature exposure. It blends well with glycerin, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, and other berry extracts, such as Raspberry Extract, Cranberry Berry Extract and Strawberry Extract, allowing manufacturers to build multi-berry antioxidant complexes with a pleasant sensory profile.
The 1 liter packaging is designed for studio-scale and small industrial production, suiting laboratories, small workshops and manufacturing lines that require stable supply and the ability to work with larger batches without frequent reordering. Store the extract in a tightly closed container, in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight, to preserve anthocyanin stability throughout the shelf life.
