Blackberry Powder Extract plant derived pigment and functional component for cosmetic and formulation systems
Blackberry Powder Extract is a spray dried or finely milled extract obtained from Rubus fruticosus fruit, preserving anthocyanins, flavonoids, and organic acids characteristic of berry raw materials. INCI Rubus Fruticosus Fruit Extract. The ingredient is used in cosmetic, food, and formulation systems as a natural color source and hydrophilic bioactive component. It is suitable for applications requiring controlled shade, stable dispersion, and compatibility with water-based environments.
What it is and where it is used
Blackberry Powder Extract is incorporated into aqueous and gel-based products such as serums, masks, toners, hydrogels, and light emulsions. It is also used in functional beverages, powder blends, and SPA formulations.
The material is selected in systems that require plant-based positioning, natural coloration, and integration into hydrophilic phases without destabilization.
How it works
Anthocyanin compounds respond to the surrounding medium and create a color profile that varies depending on pH and concentration. The powder disperses as fine particles, forming a stable distributed phase.
The extract interacts with humectants and water-binding agents, contributing to uniformity and supporting formulation structure.
Properties
Natural berry color from red to deep purple
Contains polyphenols and flavonoid fractions
Dispersible in aqueous and hydrogel systems
Compatible with glycerin and propanediol
Suitable for transparent and semi-transparent products
Provides mild plant-derived aroma
Applications across industries
In cosmetics it is used in serums, gels, emulsions, and masks
In food and beverage it is used in drinks, powders, and blends
In SPA applications it is used in gel treatments and wraps
In formulation development it is used for natural color design and plant-based systems
Behavior in formulation
Blackberry Powder Extract forms a dispersion rather than a true solution. It is best introduced into the water phase or pre-dispersed in glycerin or propanediol.
In oil-containing systems, emulsifiers are required. The level of dispersion directly affects visual uniformity and color intensity.
How to use
Introduce into the water phase under continuous mixing
Pre-disperse for improved wetting and uniformity
Adjust shear depending on formulation
Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperature
Recommended usage level
0.2 to 3 percent for light color and functional contribution
Up to 5 percent for deeper оттенок
Adjust according to system and target appearance
Formulation example
Berry hydrogel with blackberry extract
Purified Water — 670 ml
Propanediol — 40 ml
Blackberry Powder Extract — 8 g
Aloe Vera Gel — 220 ml
Panthenol — 10 ml
Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin — 5 ml
Fresh Berry Fragrance Oil — 2 ml
Processing
Blackberry Powder Extract is pre-dispersed in propanediol to ensure even wetting. The dispersion is then added to the main water phase with mixing.
Aloe Vera Gel is incorporated to build the gel structure. Panthenol, preservative, and fragrance are added at the final stage.
The system is mixed until homogeneous.
Important considerations
Color response depends on pH conditions
Avoid overheating during processing
Uniform dispersion is critical for appearance
Final performance depends on full formulation design
