Plantain herb extract botanical functional ingredient for cosmetic and processing systems
Plantain herb extract is a botanical raw material derived from the aerial parts of Plantago major or Plantago lanceolata. It is used in cosmetic, nutraceutical and technical formulations as a multifunctional plant component that supports formulation structure and enhances composition with naturally derived compounds. The ingredient is widely applied in skin care, hair care and cross industry systems where a plant based profile and compatibility with aqueous formulations are required.
What it is and where it is used
Plantain extract is incorporated into creams gels serums toners masks and scalp care products. It is used in formulations that require a botanical component with good compatibility across different base systems.
In food and supplement applications it is used as a plant derived ingredient. In processing systems it is applied as an additive in aqueous solutions and blends.
How it works
The extract contains a complex of plant derived compounds that disperse in the aqueous phase and contribute to the overall structure of the formulation.
In cosmetic systems it functions as a supportive ingredient that enhances composition and influences sensory properties.
In technical applications it contributes to the formation of stable liquid systems.
Properties
Contains plant derived compounds
Compatible with aqueous and emulsion systems
Suitable for a wide range of formulations
Influences texture and appearance
Supports uniform distribution in the system
Applicable in multi component formulations
Applications across industries
In cosmetics it is used in skin care and hair care products
In scalp care it is used in mild formulations
In food and supplement systems it is used as a plant based ingredient
In technical processing it is used in aqueous blends and solutions
Behavior in formulation
Plantain extract is soluble or dispersible in water depending on its form. It integrates easily into formulations and is compatible with a wide range of ingredients.
It does not negatively affect system stability when used within recommended levels.
How to use
The ingredient is added to the aqueous phase below 40 degrees or during the cooling stage of emulsions.
It is suitable for both cold and warm processing methods.
Recommended usage level
Typical usage ranges from 1 percent to 10 percent
In skin care formulations 2 to 5 percent is commonly used
Formulation example
Soothing gel with botanical extract system
Purified Water — 700 ml
Glycerin — 40 ml
Carbomer — 5 g
Plantain Extract — 50 ml
Panthenol — 10 ml
Allantoin — 3 g
Triethanolamine — 3 ml
Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin — 5 ml
Processing
Carbomer is dispersed in water until fully hydrated. Glycerin is added and mixed until uniform.
Plantain extract and Panthenol are incorporated followed by Allantoin. The pH is adjusted using Triethanolamine to form a gel structure.
Phenoxyethanol Ethylhexylglycerin is added at the final stage. The formulation is mixed until homogeneous.
Important considerations
Plantain extract is a botanical ingredient with variable composition.
Performance depends on raw material quality and formulation balance. Proper use allows development of stable systems with consistent texture and a plant based profile across applications.
