Description and Key Features

Albizia Flower Extract (INCI: Glycerin, Water, Albizia Julibrissin Flower Extract), also known as Silk Tree Flower Extract or Mimosa Silk Extract, is a potent botanical powerhouse derived from the flowers of the Albizia Julibrissin tree. Its rich composition includes darutoside, which is renowned for its remarkable effects on skin health and appearance. This extract is soluble in both water and glycerin, making it incredibly versatile for various cosmetic formulations. Its pH range of 4.5–6.5 ensures excellent compatibility with a wide array of skincare products.

Key features and benefits:

  • Capillary Strengthening: Helps reinforce delicate capillary walls, reducing the appearance of redness and improving overall skin resilience.
  • Anti-Puffiness Action: Effectively reduces swelling and puffiness, especially around the eyes, contributing to a more rested and awakened look.
  • Combats Signs of Fatigue: Diminishes visible signs of fatigue, such as dullness and a tired complexion, restoring vitality to the skin.
  • Cellular Renewal Stimulation: Promotes faster skin cell turnover, leading to a fresher, more youthful appearance and improved skin texture.
  • Wrinkle Smoothing: Contributes to the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles, enhancing skin's firmness and elasticity.
  • Restores Skin Radiance: Brightens and revitalizes dull skin, bringing back a natural, healthy glow.
  • Protects Against Stress Factors: Acts as a protective shield against environmental stressors and fatigue-induced damage, safeguarding skin health.

Versatile Applications and Usage Areas in Cosmetics and Beyond

Albizia Flower Extract is a highly versatile active ingredient, making it an indispensable asset in both the cosmetic and cosmeceutical industries. Its broad range of benefits makes it suitable for numerous product types (not for use in candles).

    • Anti-Puffiness Gels: Ideal for standalone gels aimed at reducing swelling on the face or body.
    • Firming Formulas for Neck and Eyelids: Enhances elasticity and firmness in areas prone to sagging, such as the neck and eyelids.

Cosmetic Recipe: "Awakening Eye Serum"

Create a lightweight, revitalizing eye serum designed to reduce puffiness, smooth fine lines, and brighten the delicate under-eye area, leveraging the power of Albizia Flower Extract.

Ingredient Percentage (%) Function
Phase A (Aqueous Phase)
Distilled Water Up to 100% (approx. 89%) Base of the serum
Glycerin 3% Humectant, draws moisture to the skin
Xanthan Gum 0.2% Gelling agent, thickens the serum
Phase B (Active Phase - Add below 40°C)
Albizia Flower Extract 2% Reduces puffiness, anti-aging, brightens
Caffeine (powder) 0.5% Reduces puffiness, stimulates microcirculation
Hyaluronic Acid (low molecular weight) 0.5% Intense hydration, plumps skin
Panthenol (Vitamin B5) 1% Soothes, moisturizes, improves elasticity
Preservative (e.g., Geogard 221) 0.8% Protects against microbial growth

Instructions for Preparation:

  1. Sanitize: Thoroughly sanitize all your equipment (beakers, stirring rods, serum bottles, dropper) with isopropyl alcohol and allow them to air dry completely.
  2. Prepare Phase A (Aqueous Phase): In a clean beaker, disperse xanthan gum into glycerin, stirring well to form a lump-free slurry. This helps prevent clumping when adding to water.
  3. Form the Gel (Phase A): Slowly add the distilled water to the glycerin/xanthan gum slurry while continuously stirring with a mini-mixer or whisk until a clear, homogeneous gel forms. This might take a few minutes.
  4. Cool Down: Allow the gel to cool to below 40°C (104°F). This is crucial for adding heat-sensitive active ingredients.
  5. Add Phase B (Active Phase): Once the gel has cooled, slowly add the Albizia Flower Extract, caffeine powder, hyaluronic acid, and panthenol to the gel, stirring well after each addition to ensure complete dissolution and even distribution. Caffeine can sometimes be tricky to dissolve, so ensure it's fully incorporated.
  6. Add Preservative: Finally, add your chosen preservative. Stir thoroughly for at least 1-2 minutes to ensure it is fully incorporated.
  7. Check pH (Recommended): Test the pH of your finished serum. For an eye serum, an ideal pH range is typically 5.0-6.0. Adjust if necessary by adding a tiny drop of diluted lactic acid to lower pH or diluted baking soda solution to raise pH.
  8. Bottle: Carefully transfer the finished serum into a clean, sterile serum bottle with a dropper or pump, preferably an airless pump bottle to protect against oxidation.

Recommendations for Application and Use:

  • Optimal Dosage: The 2% concentration of Albizia Flower Extract is highly effective for eye contour products, targeting puffiness and fine lines. You can adjust this within the recommended range of 0.5-2% for eye creams/gels.
  • Temperature Sensitivity: Always add Albizia Flower Extract to your formulation's cool-down phase (below 40°C) to preserve its active compounds.
  • Solubility: Ensure the extract is fully dissolved. Its solubility in water and glycerin makes it straightforward to incorporate into aqueous-based formulas.
  • Storage: Store the finished eye serum in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight, to maintain its efficacy and extend shelf life. Using an airless pump bottle can further protect the product.
  • Application: Apply a small amount (one drop per eye) to the clean skin around the eyes, gently patting with your ring finger until absorbed. Use morning and evening as part of your skincare routine.
  • Patch Test: Always perform a patch test on a small, inconspicuous area of skin (e.g., inner forearm) before widespread use, especially if you have sensitive skin or are new to an ingredient.
