What white acacia flowers are
In Ukraine the name white acacia usually means black locust, Robinia pseudoacacia. Botanically it is not a true acacia but a tree of the legume family, native to North America, that has long been common in our towns and shelter belts. In May it is covered with hanging clusters of fragrant white flowers. The card also lists synonyms such as false acacia and pea tree.
This listing is dried flowers; the card describes the material as dry fibres. Country of origin Ukraine, odour characteristic, minimum pack 10 kg, shelf life until 12.2041. It is a wholesale volume for production and salons, and the flowers belong to the dried flowers in bulk section.
Key properties
Robinia flowers contain flavonoids, including robinin, and aromatic compounds that give fresh flowers a honey scent. After drying the scent becomes softer and more herbal. Dry flowers are light and readily release colour and scent into water and oil.
Uses
Toners, rinses and extracts
The flowers are used for infusions and extracts that then go into toners, hair rinses, gels and shampoos. For consistent production such extracts are often replaced with ready-made liquid extracts.
Oil extracts
Steeping in oil gives a base for balms and massage oils. Ready-made oils of this kind are in the macerated oils section.
Ubtans, scrubs and decor
Ground flowers are added to ubtans and scrubs, while whole clusters and petals are used for decor. The card also lists hair care, beauty salons, home cosmetics, tea and decoctions.
How to use
For a water infusion, pour hot water over the flowers, leave for 15-20 minutes and strain. Without a preservative such an infusion is used within a day. For an oil extract, cover the dry flowers with oil and keep at 40-50 °C for a few hours. If you need a scented water phase without doing your own extraction, hydrosols with a floral note are convenient.
Compatibility and processing notes
Water extracts of the flowers contain plant sugars, so products based on them need a preservative and stability control. The colour of the infusion can darken in storage and in light. Emulsions and gels take only filtered extracts; dry particles are kept for dry blends and decor.
