Winter moisturizing and protective hand cream
Winter is just around the corner. It is a magical season, but frost and icy wind are hard on the skin of our hands. Before going out, protect them with a moisturising cream applied about an hour in advance. And the best cream is the one you make yourself: crafting natural cosmetics at home is great fun, and using them is even better. For a day cream, you can also use Hymagic 4D.
Ingredients
Oil phase: 4 g of Emulpharma 1000 emulsifier, 1 g of lanolin, 10 g of caprylic capric triglycerides, 5 g of argan oil and 5 g of shea butter. Water phase: 63.5 g of water. Active phase: 4 g of betaine, 2 g of D-panthenol, 3 g of silk hydrolysate, 0.5 g each of moisturising CO2 complex and CO2 rosemary extract, 1 g of Euxyl PE 9010 preservative and 0.5 g of lavender blend.
Oil phase
Start with caprylic capric triglycerides, a light emollient derived from coconut oil. Add shea butter, which moisturises, nourishes and protects the hands in cold weather, and argan oil, rich in vitamin E. Then add Emulpharma 1000 and lanolin, which helps keep the skin soft and less prone to cracking.
Water phase
Measure 63.5 g of water and set aside 2 to 3 g for dissolving the water-soluble actives. Heat the rest of the water and the oil phase in a water bath until the emulsifiers melt and both phases reach the same temperature.
Active phase
In the reserved water, dissolve the D-panthenol for extra moisture and protection, the silk hydrolysate for softness and the betaine for hydration. Take both phases off the heat, combine them and blend with a mixer into a smooth emulsion. Let it cool to 30 degrees, add the preservative, then the CO2 complex, rosemary extract and scent blend. Mix and spoon into a handy jar. For very dry skin, also see our cream for dry skin.
FAQ
When should I apply the cream before going out in the cold?
About an hour before, so it has time to absorb.
Why set aside some of the water?
It is used to dissolve the water-soluble actives before they go into the emulsion.
At what temperature is the preservative added?
Once the emulsion has cooled to 30 degrees.
