Natural lipstick recipe for yourself
A natural lipstick you make yourself will delight both you and your lips. Its colour comes not from synthetic dyes but from freshly squeezed beetroot juice: economical, and it tints the lipstick a soft pink. The base is made of waxes, which give the stick its firmness, protect lips from losing moisture and nourish them all day.
Ingredients for 10 g of lipstick
Oil phase: 0.5 g of carnauba wax, 0.75 g of rice bran wax, 1 g of beeswax, 4.6 g of macadamia oil, 1.4 g of sea buckthorn oil and 2.5 g of shea butter. Active phase: 12 drops of beetroot juice, 0.3 g of zinc oxide, 8 drops of bilberry extract and 0.2 g of sparkling mica. You will find a range of waxes in our waxes section.
Making the oil phase
Squeeze beetroot juice in advance with a juicer, or grate the beet and press it through gauze. Then put the waxes into a container. Carnauba wax is completely natural and comes from the leaves of a Brazilian palm. Rice bran wax gives a glossy satin finish, and beeswax holds moisture and keeps lips shiny all day.
Add the oils. Macadamia oil softens lips, sea buckthorn oil contains vitamins A and E and omega 3, 6 and 7 fatty acids, which make it a strong antioxidant, and shea butter brings plenty of caring benefits. Melt the oil phase in a steam bath until fully liquid.
Active phase and moulding
Take it off the bath and immediately add the beetroot juice, zinc oxide, bilberry extract for a pleasant scent and mica for sparkle. Fully wind out an empty lipstick tube, insert the silicone mould and pour in the lipstick. After four hours it is ready to use. For a lipstick with mineral pigment, read our create your own colour lipstick article.
