Proper care of your body
Who does not dream of smooth, silky skin? Creams, serums and oils promise miracles, and some of their ingredients sound so fantastical that even the author of Harry Potter would be impressed. Yet however wonderful the jar you buy, your care products work best only on properly cleansed skin.
Body scrubs
Cleansing is not just about shower gels. Scrubs clear away dead skin cells, so the creams and serums you apply afterwards work better. The most common scrub base is coffee grounds, but plain ground coffee is a better choice: it contains more essential oils and trace elements.
Add granulated sugar to the coffee, as its crystals polish the skin more thoroughly. Why sugar rather than everyone's favourite sea salt, such as Epsom salt? If the skin is irritated or has tiny scratches, salt will sting, so after hair removal a salt scrub is not very comfortable. Coffee and sugar, with their different particle sizes, give a lovely result. For the face, choose a gentler soft dry face scrub.
Carrier oils
Next comes a carrier oil of your choice: almond, olive, sunflower, avocado or peach kernel. It nourishes the skin so it does not feel dry after scrubbing. And your scrub is ready. Essential oils can be added too, but take care, as some people are allergic to them. Find more options in our carrier oils range.
The most important thing in any routine is consistency. Use the scrub twice a week and you will soon see results, and your whole routine will work better. For a ready recipe, see our body scrub with sugar and coconut oil.
