Gentle effective lice remedy
Kids usually bring head lice home from school or summer camp, where they spend all day in close contact. If it happens, do not panic. Drastic measures such as shaving the head can really upset a child, especially a girl with long hair, while kerosene or petrol leave a lingering smell and can burn the scalp.
A gentle homemade oil blend
Here is a gentle care option for combing out. You need 50 g of coconut oil and up to 30 drops of lavender essential oil. Other hair care oils are in our carrier oils range.
How to make and apply it
Melt the coconut oil in a water bath, add the lavender oil and stir well. The whole thing takes about five minutes.
Apply the blend to the roots, rubbing it lightly into the scalp, and spread it along the lengths with a fine-tooth comb. Wrap the head in cling film for 15 minutes. Then comb the hair thoroughly again with the fine-tooth comb and wash the oil out with regular shampoo. Comb through more often over the next day and repeat after 3-5 days.
The oils make strands smooth and slippery, so the comb glides more easily and combing out is more comfortable. This routine does not dry out the scalp. If the problem persists, see a doctor or pharmacist. For more gentle scalp care, read our homemade anti-dandruff shampoo article.
